The Complete Guide and Stages of the OCD Diet

What is The OCD Diet?

Obsessive Corbuzier's Diet or OCD diet is a type of diet that was popularized by well-known Indonesian mentalist, Deddy Corbuzier, in 2013. In contrast to most other types of diets that

encourage the culprit to reduce the portion of food or change the food menu, the OCD diet does not prohibit you from continuing to eat the type of food you want, as long as it is within reasonable limits. The thing that needs to be done for OCD dieters is to set meal times.

In general, going on an OCD diet is the same as fasting. There are times when we are not allowed to eat. However, when the time comes, eating any food is allowed.

How the OCD Diet Works ?

This question may cross your mind, seeing the significance of this type of diet in losing weight. When doing OCD, insulin levels in the body will decrease. Conversely, lipolytic hormones consisting of glucagon, catecholamines, and growth hormones have increased levels. This then causes the intensity of fat burning to increase so that fat burns faster.

The OCD diet and intermittent fasting are still the favourite program among people who are actively slimming down. There are various benefits that can be obtained when doing this diet, including weight loss.

A diet program similar to this fasting method can actually be done if it is in accordance with the right rules. Approximately how to do the right OCD diet? Are there any steps a beginner has to go through? Check out the following guide.

The OCD diet is a fasting-like diet method using the eating window system. Well, the eating window itself is the length of time when you are allowed to eat.

The meal times are different and free according to choice, some are done within 8 hours, 6 hours, up to 4 hours a day. Below are the stages of the eating window in the OCD diet that you can choose from.

1. 16:8 . feeding window

This first guide to running the OCD diet you can do at the earliest stage for beginners. You can try an 8 hour eating window in a day (24 hours) by fasting for 16 hours. At this stage, you can eat any food and drink for 8 hours.

After the eating window is over, you should not consume any food and drink except water. Setting the fasting schedule and eating window should be done regularly for a period of 2 weeks.

For example, you start the OCD diet at 7 am, then you can eat any food from 7 am – 3 pm. After the eating window is up, you have to fast only by drinking water until tomorrow at 7 am.

2. Feeding window 18:6

In this second stage, there is a slight difference and additional diet time. This 18:6 stage allows you to eat any food for a duration of 6 hours. After that, you are required to fast for 18 hours.

For example, you open the dining window at 10 am. The next 8 hours or at 4 pm you have started fasting. You can't drink anything but water. This was done until 10 am the next day.

Those of you who want to do this are advised to practice the first phase of fasting windows first, which is best done for 2 weeks.

3. 20:4 Feeding Window

The next stage you can do when the body feels it has been able to adjust. Stage 20:4 can start with a very small eating window, which is only 4 hours in one day.

The method used is not much different from the first and second stages. The difference is only in the fasting and eating window.

At this stage which is quite heavy, if you find it difficult or this diet does not work, you can stick to the second stage.

4. Eat only once a day

The time has come for the toughest and most difficult stages. At this stage, you must fast for 24 hours. However, that doesn't mean you shouldn't eat at all. You are still allowed to eat, but only once a day.

For example, we start the OCD diet at this stage at 6 pm, so you only eat at 6 pm. After and during fasting, you are only allowed to consume water until the meal window the next day.

It is also recommended to combine this OCD diet with the previous stages of the diet. Try to do it for two weeks, so that the body does not experience nutritional deficiencies or even cause other problems.

Foods to eat while on the OCD diet

After understanding the stages, now you may be interested in applying this one diet method. However, you must pay attention to the intake of nutrients that must be consumed when you are at the eating window stage of the OCD diet.

Generally, it is important to eat foods that contain carbohydrates. Apart from being a source of energy, carbohydrates are needed for the body's metabolic processes, which is when the body produces energy from the food you eat.

Then, every day the body also needs protein nutrients to maintain muscle mass. You can get protein in foodstuffs such as eggs, animal meat, tofu, or tempeh.

Meanwhile, to meet daily vitamin needs, make sure there are foods such as green vegetables or fruits in the eating window stage of your diet. You can also take vitamin supplements to avoid nutritional deficiencies

What to know before going on the OCD diet

The weight loss effects of the OCD diet are quite tempting. Unfortunately, not everyone can go on this diet. By following the meal window steps outlined above, you will miss your usual ideal meal times.

Fasting for too long will encourage the production of hunger hormones that increase the desire to eat. If so, the effect makes you vent your hunger by overeating when you enter the eating window.

In addition, there are some people who are not advised to go on the OCD diet, namely:

  • people who have diabetes,
  • have heart disease and blood pressure,
  • people with a history of eating disorders
  • people who have a history of amenorrhea,
  • pregnant women, as well
  • children under 18 years of age.

If you fall into the group mentioned, you should first consult with your doctor or nutritionist before trying this diet.

It should also be noted that everyone's body can feel the effects of a different diet. If you experience headaches, nausea, unusual anxiety, or other symptoms after going on a diet, stop the diet immediately and see a doctor.
